Summer Fun

August 4th, 2008

We’ve been busy here enjoying the sunshine lately. I think I’ve finally hit a workable balance between play and work, and it’s been WAY more fun for all of us, and has resulted in more “in the moment” times.

This week the blackberries are beginning to ripen, so we spent some time searching out the bushes while father was at work. Oh those kids had an absolute ball, and ate and ate and ate. We still ended up with a ton of berries, and made some yummy cobbler this weekend. I had forgotten how good fresh blackberries taste on cornflakes and milk - oh heaven and such memories from childhood.

We also put together a stock photography set while we were picking - the kids loved it, and had some great suggestions on what all to add. Here’s Berry Pickin’:

Tickle Wars

May 28th, 2008

Fidget was playing with some legos tonight when I dubbed it an official tickle fest. See? Here he is all serious and playing so well. . . I love this angle and how HUGE his feet look.

Then he’s beginning to realize that mommy is doing more than just crawling around on the floor with a camera. (Yeah, that’s a normal occurrance around here, unfortunately. . . )

And then a full-fledge battle was underway. . . I think we both won that one, heehee.

Toothless Donuts

April 22nd, 2008

Do you ever have those months where you feel like you have to crawl back up over the edge of the earth and rebalance yourself? It’s been crazy busy, and silly me keeps forgetting to take my iron. So I drink more coffee, which makes me need more iron, which makes me tired, which makes me want more coffee. . . Yeah, you get the picture. I’m glad I like coffee.

We have some big news again! Last week it was Fidget and no more diapers. This week, still no diapers. (NO, that’s not the news. And YES I know that’s what you were thinking. My mom even thought that this past weekend when we showed up with a pink box that said “Good things come in pink boxes.”) Um, nope. Sprinkle lost his first tooth!!!

Now this is funny, but shhhh . . . you can’t tell him I said this. He was asking how you put a tooth under your pillow for the toothfairy, because “I’ve never done this before, Mom. And I don’t want to get it wrong!” So he wrote a note to the toothfairy, wrapped it around his tooth, put it in a security envelope, sealed it up and feel asleep dreaming of piles of money. Father and I had some fun and sneaked out the envelope, steamed it open, took out the tooth and the letter, put in some money and a whole bunch of fairy glitter. When he woke up the next morning, I found him rubbing fairy dust all over himself to see if he could fly. I love little boys. He’s very, very happy.

Now on to that pink box. We took a little trip Saturday afternoon and hit VooDoo Donuts. Oh my heavens, the best donuts in Portland. I’m not kidding - they have the award on the wall of their shop. SOOOO good. So worth the drive. SOOO yummy. My dad will shoot me for posting these, but hey - what goes around comes around. I figured it was about time for one of these of HIM, heehee.

Sparkle’s had Captain Crunch all over it:

Sprinkle’s had rice crispies and peanut butter drizzles:

My dads? I’m not sure which three flavors he got. (Just kidding. I’m pretty sure there was chocolate involved.) I had a blueberry cake one, father had a mango filled one, and there was some fighting over the rest.

Fidget ate his too fast to get a picture in. I think we’re going to change his name from Fidget to Scarf.

Spring is coming

March 4th, 2008

I swear, this bug is persistant! I’m SO tired of checking fevers and wiping noses, my own included! February is a complete blur to me. Here’s a moment that about sums up the month:

I’m ready to fly the windows open, grab the pinesol and scrub this house from stem to stern to rid it of all the germs if only I could gather up the energy. Sprinkle’s finally over it, but then yesterday he woke up unable to walk. His calf muscles are messed up, whether dehydration, growing pains, or something else I don’t know, but he crawled much of the morning. This morning it was the same thing so we worked on stretching him a bit to ease things up. Weird, I tell you. Spring just needs to get here in a hurry. Sparkle’s been a trooper through it all, and has been such a help fixing cheerios, making oatmeal and pbjs for anyone who is hungry. Then yesterday her fever topped 102, so the circle begins again. Aigh. The poor dear.

I was out the other day getting some fresh air and sunshine when I saw this:

Isn’t that gorgeous!!! There’s a promise in the bud that I’m banking on.

Anyone have a brain?

February 25th, 2008

I’m in need of one today. It’s been a brainless day, and now I find myself editing THIS photo:

Priceless, I tell you. Happy Monday!

Aigh on life

February 18th, 2008

Do you ever find yourself with too much you want to do and too little time to do it all? Aigh, that’s been my life these past two weeks. I’ve been struggling with focus, so much time gets wasted in my mental wanderings. I have so many kits I want to get into the store, a few clients to finish up proofs for, a few shoots I want to go on, prints I want to order for our house, schooling issues to address for the children, a house to clean, and always the laundry pile to work on. Honestly, the time is there, the desire is definitely there, but the mental discipline is missing. So if you’re proofs are languishing, know that tonight is the night they will get done, no matter how many pots of coffee it takes, lol.

On the upside, my new photography bag arrived on Friday!!! It’s SOOO gorgeous - makes me want to take it everywhere. Which isn’t a new thing - I just know this one isn’t torn to pieces like my last one. It couldn’t have arrived a day later, that’s for sure. Here it is, in all it’s soft leather amazingness:

And awww, see this little guy? He’s a darling, that’s for sure - my nephew!!! What a jolly time we had over there on Friday evening playing with him and his two brothers and sister. The poor thing just didn’t want to to sleep for pictures, but we were still able to grab a few shots of him very wide awake. Maybe this week we’ll give it another go, for who can get enough newborn shots? Too much fun. . .
